About Me
My name is Susan Myers and I fell in love with Rug Hooking the very first time I saw it. My love for Rug Hooking and Wool all started with our move to Wichita Falls, Texas where I meet a very sweet friend, Julie, who introduce me into the world of Rug Hooking. My life has never been the same since. It’s been a fun journey of learning and meeting some of my closest friends, teachers, and support team.
Welcome to The Shepherd’s Wool Website. I hope you find this webpage a joy to visit, an inspiration to work with your hands, and a place to come sit and stitch or hook with us!
Handwork has never been “new” to me; I just was “too busy” to actually sit still long enough to learn from the best! I grew up watching my busy little mom sitting in her chair in the evenings, hand embroidering and crocheting all types of beautiful little items to display around our little farm house to “brighten” it up. Our home was filled with this type of handwork and I loved it.
As I began to approach the “Empty Nest” stage of life I decided to embark on the journey of making my dream become a reality. I could not have ever made this happen without the love and support of my husband, all my children, and so many wonderful friends. Each one has been such a blessing, encouragement, and help in making this shop come true.
My husband, Scott, and I live in the country on 35 acres of land with our Horses, Cows, Chickens, Guineas, Dogs and Cats. I grew up in a very small farming community and absolutely love the country life. We have 3 wonderful sons, and with our oldest comes our daughter by love and 4 precious grandchildren. I love being a “GiGi”, it’s one of the biggest blessings ever. We are also blessed with our foreign exchange “German daughter” who has been with us for 7 years now. She is a joy!
It has been a fun journey learning all about textiles and the love of creating something beautiful by my own hands. This shop started with a desire to create a place for women to gather together, laugh, share, and learn to create beautiful hand work projects. One of the biggest joys for me is to host teachers and host Retreats. So please visit us often to see who is joining us and what we are doing next. This type of art is always offering “new and forgotten” techniques. There is so much more to learn about this exciting art form.
As the old saying goes “Come sit a spell with us!”
